I’ve been making plans travel plans for the next couple of months this week, and it looks like in mid-June I’ll be making my first trip to SilverDocs. And look: they’ve just made their first major program announcement:

Spike Lee, the Oscar-nominated director of Do the Right Thing, will be honored at this year’s Silverdocs film festival for his documentary work including When the Levees Broke, on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, organizers said on Wednesday.

Lee will screen excepts from his documentary works and discuss his career on June 19 at the Charles Guggenheim Symposium, which recognizes top documentary filmmakers and is a centerpiece of the June 16-23 festival.

More from Reuters and at the SilverDocs website. I’ll be in town from the 17th-23; will you?

Those who have been following the news surrounding the hit SXSW short Glory at Sea (see the trailer above) know that the film’s director, Benh Zeitlin, is recovering from a hit-and-run car accident that happened en route to Sea’s SXSW premiere. Zeitlin didn’t have insurance, and his medical bills are reported to be in the high five figures. In order to make a dent, his friends and filmmaking partners have set up two benefit screenings of Sea, one in New York and one in Austin. The New York screening happens on Saturday night, and it’ll mark not only the New York premiere of Sea, but the world premiere of Benh’s short film, I Get Wet. Both films will be screened in Austin, alongside five other shorts by Zeitlin and his crew of collaborators, including Ray Tintori’s beautiful black and white fable Death to the Tinman. If you can’t make it to either event but would still like to donate to the cause, there are details on how to do just that on the Rooftop Films blog. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I’ll be at the New York screening, so if you’re around come say hi.

So we all saw Casino Royale and loved it. But where were the funny bits? Pretty much non existent. Well Daniel Craig revealed that the next Bond, Bond 22 will have a new twist to it, it will be returning to it’s Roger Moore roots and be including a lot more humor.

Daniel Craig really wants to put a spin on the character and really show his own side to him. He wants it to be more of a softer side, less macho side to Bond, which sounds kinda stupid if you are asking me, but I doubt they will, so carry on :)

Craig had the following to say about the next Bond film where he will be starring alongside Giancarlo Giannini and be directed by Marc Foster.

They [the producers] just want more gags. The next one’s going to be a lot funnier. Octopussy and Pussy Galore style gags. They’re all great names – but that’s the thing, the Bond jokes will be flipped on their heads.

Sounds like he wants to be more of a Shawn Connery, are you trying to get the women Danny boy? Look here is what I think they should do, bring back Jaws. That is all they need, Bond can stay the same, just bring back Richard Kiel and those stainless steel teeth and you have comedy right there.
