YouTube Is The Girl Studios Can’t Commit To (Flix99.com)

YouTube Is The Girl Studios Can’t Commit To
YouTube is the gold standard for online video, but Hulu-mad Hollywood studios are just beginning to gingerly touch it with a 10 foot pole.

As Chris briefly noted earlier this morning, MGM has confirmed last week’s CNET rumors and announced that they’re slowly rolling some of their feature film library on to YouTube. But the New York Times story about this, by Brad Stone and the always-skeptical Brooks Barnes, warns us not to get too excited — because MGM certainly isn’t.

Will Smith Enlists Son Jaden For ‘Karate Kid’ Remake
I think it’s official — if you were old enough to see “The Karate Kid” in theaters, Hollywood considers you ancient news, and your childhood memories up for grabs. New To Theatres This Weekend: Role Models, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Soul Men, JCVD
Not a particularly exciting week for new theatrical releases as we impatiently await the North American premiere of Quantum of Solace. The Paul Rudd/Seann William Scott comedy Role Models didn’t look all that funny but it is getting surprisingly good reviews; Soul Men, on the other hand, is not winning over critics despite featuring the […]

Prop 8 Rally Crashed By Bruno Character (Flix99.com)

Prop 8 Rally Crashed By Bruno Character
It looks like the pre-election battle over California’s Propositon 8 (which would render gay marriages illegal in the state) could provide the backdrop to a scene in Bruno, Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming Borat follow-up. Cohen showed up at a Yes on 8 rally this weekend in character as Bruno, the gay Austrian fashion designer, and […]

Oscars vs Box Office Chapter 735 (Flix99.com)

Oscars vs Box Office Chapter 735
Or, why suggesting that audiences are “indifferent” to films that never make it to a multiplex is insane.

Conservative film blogger Dirty Harry is often best ignored when he’s aggressively railing against the liberal Hollywood elite, but when he offers a faux-populist view of filmgoing that’s so obstinately limited in scope that it’s actually potentially dangerous, I have to say something.
